About Me

I was born in Canada and raised in Aotearoa New Zealand. I currently live in Reefton on the West Coast of Te Wai Pounamu, The South Island. There is plenty of wilderness/wildness here, giving time and space to think and breathe as an artist.

My creative practice involves research and observation. Colour and balance lead me.

I work mainly in oil, though I like to delve into the mixing of possibilities, by adding and exploring other mediums when put into close proximity.

My Journey

A few years ago I entertained friends and family by putting myself through a ‘degree’ by researching/creating an arts university curriculum. This is the type of thing a creative soul does I guess. Reefton’s gold comes not only from mining. We have some exceptional artists and artist teachers here. Reefton Gallery is a Fine Art Gallery that has been operating for nearly 30 years.

I am fortunate, to date, to have learned from these artists as well as some international teachers. I remain curious and explorative.

My Goal

While figuring out my creative direction, I was given a grant of $500 at one point. It was from a group of women. It needed no paying back and no accountability report. I was asked what I wanted to put it towards and that was it.

How many of these micro grants of hope and trust were given? I’ve never forgotten it and when the world seems harsh or I’ve got it wrong, I come back to reflecting upon this model, with deep gratitude. I like to think of my art (my goal per se) as a baton handed to me from these women, translated, learned from (we all make mistakes) and passed on.

Welcome to my website and please find the links to the galleries where I show my art and Reefton Who Cares House below, whom I am proud to be associated with. Thank you for reading and connecting with me/us.
